Description

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, met today in Brussels with the Vice-President of the European Parliament's Committee on Agriculture and rapporteur for the future Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), Norbert Lins, in a meeting focused on the design of the European agricultural policy for the period 2028-2034.

During the meeting, Planas advocated for a CAP with a sufficient budget, at least equivalent to the current financial framework, simplified, with its own identity, without renationalization, and capable of responding to current climate and geopolitical challenges.

Furthermore, the Spanish minister has reiterated his rejection of co-financing within the CAP, considering that it would generate unequal competition between member states by allowing different levels of support for the agricultural sectors.

Planas also highlighted the successful implementation in Spain of redistributive payments, introduced for the first time in the current reform, as well as the positive reception of eco-schemes. According to the planned timetable, the goal is to finalize the budget for the future CAP by early 2027.
